Traveller's Checklist

Pre-Departure

  • _ Passport - check the expiration date two months before your trip. Some countries demand 6 months expiry date.
  • _ Visas - call embassies to find out if you need a visa for the country you will visit.
  • _ Tickets (airplanes, trains, cruises)
  • _ Health (Vaccinations, medications)
  • _ Travel Reservations - airplane tickets, list of frequent flyers numbers.
  • _ Hotel Reservations and Car rental - take along confirmation numbers.
  • _ Photocopy and email yourself all documentations (Passports, visas, tickets, immunization certificates, identifications, itinerary, reservations,etc.)
  • _ Identifications (driver's license, registration, insurance cards;leave unneccessary cards at home)
  • _ Money and Foreign Currency (cash, traveler's cheques, credit cards)
  • - Carry some emergency cash in a money belt.
  • _ Do not pack your travel documents or money in a suitcase that may get lost. Take your important documents and money in a wallet or purse that you can access at all times.

  • _ Travel Guide and Maps - Language Books and Reading Materials.
  • _ TravelHealth Insurance/Cancellation to cover the duration of your trip.
  • _ Printed list of Emergency Person and Bank Contacts in the handy address book just in case your cell phone batteries die or you lose the phone.
  • _ Tie a colourful ribbon or attach distinctive stickers to your luggage so that you can identify it easily, and other travelers will not take it by mistake at a busy terminal.

    An appliance can be ruined or cause a fire hazard if it is plugged into a power source that it cannot handle. Clocks that rely on the frequency of the alternating current cycles can gain or lose time when plugged into foreign power sources. Some devices, such as hair dryers, have voltage regulators that need to be switched to select the proper voltage. Always verify the voltage setting before plugging in the device.

  • _ Make sure all faucets turned off and the water in toilet that you flushed has stopped running just before stepping out of your door.

Traveling with kids

    * Planning a vacation to a holiday destination that is suitable for your children is easy
  • _ Make sure your children are wearing loose fitting comfortable clothes and shoes.
  • _ Have plenty of snacks, drinks, and lots of things to keep them entertained.
  • - Traditional journey car games such as I-spy are still surprisingly great and have longevity, whereas mondern technology allows the whole family to watch movies online.
    - 18 year old children can play Poker or "Deal Or No Deal" from just about anywhere, and that will entertain them for hours.
    * Children get bored easily and have very little patience for travel. There are thousands of great holiday destinations suitable for children from things like Disney World, Camping, and Beach holidays.
    *** The real difficult part is the journey.

    • _ Hiking boots, jeans, long sleeves shirts, coat. Spray insect repellent on your shoes, socks, and pant cuffs to discourage ticks and insects from crawling up your legs before a hike.
    • _ Hunting equipment (rod and reel, guns, ammunition, bows, arrows).
    • Make sure that you have proper permits for guns and licenses for fishing and hunting.
      You may need a tape measure and a spring scale to make sure that your cathces are of legal size. Use guns safely.

    ** Watch Your Cash

    • _ Stay aware of your surroundings to avoid being a victim of pickpockets when traveling.
    • _ Do not travel with more than two credit cards.
    • _ Notify the card companies that you will be traveling so that they won't put a hold on the card when they start seeing charges from unfamiliar places.
    • _ Use a money belt or neck wallet under your shirt to hold your passport, travel tickets, and extra cash if you don't have access to a hotel safe.
    • _ Only carry in your wallet what you will be using for the day.
    • _ Go into a bathroom, and lock the door to retrieve extra money from your money belt if you run out of money in your wallet.
    • _ In crowded places, it is better to carry your wallet in a front pant pocket rather than in a back pocket that can be picked more easily.
    • *** Sometimes thieves work in teams. One of them distracts you or pushes you, while another one picks your pocket. One time, when a traveler was traveling in Spain, a woman was asking for charity and she pushed a baby against the traveler's torso while with her other hand she was trying to unzip the belt pouch that traveler was wearing around the stomach.

      Please note that the doctor's consultation and travel vaccinations are not covered by O.H.I.P. Only basic regular vaccinations are covered by O.H.I.P.

      If you have PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE through work or school you may be covered for vaccines. Upon your payment we will issue you a PAID invoice so you can claim your expenses back from your insurance company.
