Japanese encephalitis is an infection spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. This disease affects the brain causing confusion and may lead to coma and death. Yes. JE-VAX reduces your risks of becoming ill with Japanese Encephalitis. Anyone planning to travel to these regions in Asia during the Japanese encephalitis transmission season can get sick: In some countries, the Japanese Encephalitis transmission season lasts year around. In other countries, transmission is seasonal. Vaccination with JE-VAX is recommended if: you are travelling to a country during a Japanese Encephalitis transmission season and you are planning extensive outdoor activities in rural areas for any length of time, or you plan to travel for 3 weeks or more to a country during a Japanese encephalitis transmission season, regardless of your planned activities.
