HIV - AIDS Travel Vaccine Clinic in Toronto
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the body's immune system, making the body unable to fight infection. It can cause AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome), which is the last stage of HIV infection. HIV is the most dangerous sexually transmitted disease. People can also get HIV by sharing needles to inject drugs or from a contaminated needle or blood transfusion. Poorer countries may re-use needles and be unable to screen their blood supply.
WHAT CAN I DO?
- Use a latex condom during sex.
- If you must inject medication (even occasionally), bring your own needles and syringes. Get a certificate from your doctor.
- Don't get a tattoo or piercing on your trip.
- Never share a needle to inject drugs.
- Avoid immunizations or blood transfusions while travelling.
NEEDLES ARE A RISK
If you must have a tattoo or piercing to remember your trip, get it done when you return home.
